2010 Winter Olympics Bookings: Please note that we are fully booked from Feb. 5 - Feb. 28, 2010	The PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola travels across the valley between the two, transporting winter skiers and snowboarders and summer hikers and sightseers between Whistler Mountains Roundhouse Lodge to the Rendezvous Lodge on Blackcomb Mountain. While the two mountains have been connected at their bases for years and it was possible to ski both in a day, the gondola makes it easy by travelling the 4.4 kilometres (2.73 miles) between the two mountains in just 11 minutes. Its an engineering feat and a world record-breaker: the unsupported cable span between the two middle towers is the worlds longest at 3.024 kilometres (1.88 miles). Photo: Joern Rohde/wpnn.org
Whistler, B.C. – Condé Nast Traveler magazine, a trend-setter in the travel industry, has awarded Whistler the top spot in its annual “Best Places to Ski & Stay in North America” reader survey in its December 2008 issue. Condé Nast Traveler readers were asked to evaluate North American ski resorts that they had visited in the past three years, and rate each resort. Whistler received the top score on the combined criteria of Terrain and Conditions, Lifts and Lines, Local Ambience, Local Dining, and Après-Ski/Activities. The addition of the PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola this winter received special praise in Condé Nast Traveler for going head to head with Wyoming’s Jackson Hole to be the “first to finish a fantastical mode of mountaintop transport” by linking Whistler and Blackcomb peaks together via one lift.

LAND AND SEA TRAVEL The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website. CURRENTLY: U.S. citizens need to present either (a) a passport, passport card (available in spring 2008), or WHTI-compliant document; or (b) a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. LATER: On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government will implement the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require most U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card, or WHTI-compliant document.
